Where Did the Money Go?

Ten thousand sounds like a lot. Then come 343, 78, 126.50… Tap away little purchases and watch a big budget disappear.

Enter 0.01 to 10,000,000, with up to two decimals. Scrolling will not change it.

Pick a spending pattern

Changing the budget, currency, or pattern starts over. Currency only changes the unit; there is no exchange conversion.

Small purchases are enlarged to keep amounts readable. Empty spaces are money already spent.

Amounts are randomly generated to illustrate how small purchases add up, not actual bills or market prices. Fragments add up exactly to the budget. Shared links include the budget, currency, and spending progress.

Guide & Insights

Big money disappears in small pieces

A purchase of a few tens or hundreds can feel insignificant on its own. Put them all in one budget: every tap lowers your balance and leaves another gap.

🧩

Irregular amounts, familiar feeling

The budget becomes uneven whole and decimal amounts. Purchase counts grow gradually with the budget, while each pattern has a different spending density and distribution.

👆

Spend it one tap at a time

Tap a fragment to subtract its value and leave an empty space. Pause the demo, undo purchases, or start over. Expand the list to review each purchase.

🧮

Every cent accounted for

Calculations use integer cents. Every purchase is positive, and all purchases sum exactly to the budget. Tiles have minimum dimensions, enlarging small purchases for readability. Labels and balances give the monetary values.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1Are these real transactions?▼
No. An algorithm generates irregular whole and decimal amounts to illustrate cumulative spending. They are not actual bills or market prices.
Q2Can I undo a purchase?▼
Yes. Use Undo last, or tap an empty fragment to refund it. Start over restores the same set of purchases; New amounts generates a different set.
Q3Why does each pattern have a different number of fragments?▼
Counts grow gradually with the budget. In Everyday, 100 becomes 6 purchases, 1,000 becomes 13, 10,000 becomes 28, and 30,000 becomes 40, up to 48 purchases. For the same budget, Weekend uses fewer purchases and Mixed falls in between. Each purchase is worth at least one cent, and the sum always equals the budget.
Q4Does a shared link restore the same fragments?▼
Yes. It includes generation parameters and spent-fragment records, restoring the board and balance. Changing the page language does not change the numerical meaning of the amounts.
